Reeva Steenkamp Was Hiding Behind a Bathroom Door When Oscar Pistorius Shot Her; Report Claims Security Was Called to the House Two Hours Earlier

Reeva Steenkamp, the girlfriend of Olympian Oscar Pistorius, was hiding behind a bathroom door when she was shot and killed, according to Reuters. The Mail and Guardian reports that Pistorius will be charged with premeditated murder, putting an end to the “shot a burglar” storyline that immediately sprung up after the shooting.

Beeld, a daily newspaper in South Africa, reported that security was called to the home two hours before the shooting.

The Afrikaans daily Beeld dedicated five full pages to the story, with its front page story, headlined “Dood agter deur [Dead behind door]“, saying it understood Steenkamp was shot four times through a bathroom door.
According to the paper, the police and security guards were called to his house about two hours before the shooting, after neighbours heard him and Steenkamp argue. The police were called out a second time around 3am after neighbours heard gunshots, reported Beeld, quoting an unnamed Silver Woods estate resident.

Police have said virtually nothing about the shooting.

Beeld explained its initial report, that the shooting was an accident, had come from police Captain Sarah Mcira, who released the information to their journalist around 8am on Thursday.
Another police spokesperson later said that information came as a surprise. “The South Africa Police Service were just as surprised … to hear on the radio that allegations had been made that the deceased had been perceived to be a burglar,” police spokesperson Brigadier Denise Beukes said.
“We were very surprised, and those allegations did not come from us.”

I never really cared about the Olympics or any of its affiliated athletes. Plus, this guy is South African, so I really don’t care. But I imagine this has to be like an OJ Simpson level news story in South Africa, right? I imagine the only thing that could be more famous there would be a Rugby Player or Cricketer doing the same thing.

When I was 19 I went backpacking through Europe with my best friend. We stayed in Amsterdam for three days (I was a total weed-head then). One night I decided that with my limited funds I would procure the services of the hottest hooker I could find.
