Vin Scully Discussed Shane Victorino’s Tweet (Twit?) During a Dodgers Broadcast
Vin Scully, the Abe Froman of sports broadcasters, was tasked with reading a tweet sent by newly acquired Dodgers outfielder, Shane Victorino during Tuesday night’s broadcast.
To the surprise of no one, the 84-year-old Scully wasn’t exactly up to speed with proper Twitter terminology and, well, probably Twitter itself. But that was the sheer beauty of the moment. Vin Scully’s greatness is so overwhelming that even when confronted with something completely and utterly foreign, his unmistakable approach still manages to remain artful and graceful. That’s why he’s Vin Scully, and that’s why we love him.
Any other announcer caught out of their element would have stumbled and bumbled their way through the segment as though they had just devoured Chris Berman’s latest supply of “Canadian aspirin.”
