Philadelphia Eagles 2012 NFL Preview
The most popular phrase you’ll hear to describe the Eagles this season: “most talented roster in the NFL.”
You know what comes to mind when I think of the Philadelphia Eagles?
Soft.
DeSean Jackson? Soft. Jeremy Maclin? Immensely talented but not the kind of receiver who can go over the middle with any consistency. Mike Vick? Nine years in the NFL, and he’s played all 16 games only once.
*
The Eagles most likely have the quirkiest schedule in the NFL:
Week 4: vs. NY Giants. In week three, the Giants play on Thursday, and thus get an extra couple days to prepare for their division rival.
Week 5: at Pittsburgh. The Steelers are coming off a bye week. The soft Eagles will be playing two of the hardest hitting teams in the league back-to-back.
Week 6: vs. Detroit. The Lions are coming off a bye week. That’s an rigorous 3-game stretch for the Eagles (all three made the playoffs last year) and each opponent will have had more rest than Philly.
Week 8: vs. Atlanta. The Eagles are coming off a bye! Oh, but so is Atlanta. No advantage gained.
Week 11: at Washington. The Redskins are the 4th team Philadelphia will be playing coming off a bye week.
Week 13: at Dallas. Short week for the Eagles leading into what will probably be a pivotal divisional game – Philly will have just played Cam Newton on Monday Night Football.
You won’t find a more daunting schedule in the league.
*
But all is not negative! Philadelphia, realistically, could open the season 3-0. Cleveland and Arizona should be automatic wins, and if the Eagles can beat Baltimore at home, they should be a game or two up on the Giants and Cowboys (yes, I am completely discounting the Redskins in the division).
They’ll need that cushion because from Sept. 30 to November 5th, all the Eagles face are teams that made the 2011 playoffs.
Two other thoughts: The offensive line isn’t an upper echelon group, but the defense has significantly improved thanks to linebackers acquired via trade (DeMeco Ryans) and the draft (Mychal Kendricks).
Smells like 9-7/10-6, but I’ve got them in the playoffs along with the Giants. The Eagles sure as hell better make the playoffs, or Andy Reid is gone and Mike Vick might be, too.

9-7 will probably will the division. I only see one team from the making it, just because they are all gonna beat up on each other.

Eagles will be losing to the Cardinals in week 3.
September 2nd, 2012 at 7:23 PM
In your madden season?
September 2nd, 2012 at 7:35 PM
No madden this year AP. Cards very tough at home, will have a top 10 defense, and should have a strong run game. THey can definitely beat the Eagles at home.
September 2nd, 2012 at 7:55 PM
The top 10 defense will have to be seen to be believed

Go beanie!
September 2nd, 2012 at 8:01 PM
they were among the best in the NFL at 3rd downs and Red Zone last season, and over the last 9 games were among the top ten overall. Defense will be improved in it’s second year under Horton.
September 2nd, 2012 at 8:01 PM
Beanie will be the 22nd back in a 2 man rotation by week 6. Ryan Williams is a baller.

In your madden season?
That earned a chuckle.

1st time I haven’t bought Madden since 1994.
September 2nd, 2012 at 8:07 PM
I only get it every 5 years or so. I have 06 and last years
September 2nd, 2012 at 8:10 PM
I’ve stopped playing video games for the most part. Just don’t seem to have the time anymore.
September 2nd, 2012 at 8:12 PM
I hear ya. Speaking of time, I still need to take my lunch (dinner?) break. Too bad I can’t just skip it and leave early. There’s some cold ones sitting in the fridge. From 10 miles away, I can hear them calling my name.

All 3 of them would start for the Jets the moment they walked into the Jets facility. They may be fragile, but soft they’re not.

I’ve left for lunch and knocked back a few beers from time to time. Also left for lunch and not come back on more than one occasion. Much different when you don’t have anyone to check on you.
September 2nd, 2012 at 8:23 PM
I have desean on one of my ff teams

That’s the only benefit of night shift and working every weekend. Nobody important is here. But the system keeps track of how long you’re logged in, so I could get away with extended lunches or breaks for about 2 weeks until they do the audit. Not that it makes any difference. For an entire work week I only do the equivalent of about a day and a half worth of work. You can only read so much news and play so many one man games of war.

Hope this is true, I’ve got him on my ff team.
September 2nd, 2012 at 8:52 PM
Idk smallie hard for anyone to be a baller behind that o-line
September 2nd, 2012 at 8:53 PM
The line is much better in run blocking than pass blocking is what it comes down to.
September 2nd, 2012 at 9:01 PM
Ben – Yes, all 3 would start for the Jets. no question.
September 2nd, 2012 at 9:32 PM

I guess the only thing worse than being in a world of shit is knowing ahead of time that you’re going to be in a world of shit.
September 2nd, 2012 at 9:49 PM
JMac, is there a line yet for Jets-Bills?
September 2nd, 2012 at 9:50 PM
Good shirt. The other-angle photo of that has been my monitor background for about half a year…
September 2nd, 2012 at 9:53 PM
Yeah I decided to dig in and knock all the little nonsense out now. I’ve been having a pretty great weekend so far. I played golf w/ my Dad on FRI and scored a 79 (2nd time I broke 80 and first time in like 4 years). Also had a great fantasy draft in my 12-man league.
And today I took the boys fishing. Looked over and saw my almost 3-year old holding a bass he just reeled in on his own.
September 2nd, 2012 at 10:08 PM
Just read 26 of the Browns on the 53-man roster are rookies or 2nd year players.
September 2nd, 2012 at 10:12 PM
Jets -3
40.5 o/u
September 2nd, 2012 at 10:22 PM
-3? Damn..should be a pick or jets -1
September 2nd, 2012 at 10:27 PM
Looked over and saw my almost 3-year old holding a bass he just reeled in on his own.
Bet that was rewarding on both sides. Me, you wouldn’t have looked over after I already had it in because I’d he hootin and hollerin the entire time I was reeling.
September 2nd, 2012 at 10:41 PM
Yeah it was pretty good b/c one his 4 year old brother been killing it fishing all summer. Earlier this summer I hooked a fish, set the line down, then waited and told the little guy to reel it in. Little guy knew something was up and was saying that he truly didnt catch it, so that was good for him today to do it start-to-finish on his own. Though today was the first time my sons killed me out there, I got cleaned about 6 times while casting and baiting for them.
September 2nd, 2012 at 10:49 PM
What were you guys catching them on? Minnows work the best around here, but one time I caught a crayfish when I was standing in the water at the boat ramp. I didn’t end up catching what hit, but I swear I’ve never felt a hit like that in my life. The age old big one that got away.
September 2nd, 2012 at 10:49 PM
What I meant is a used the crayfish as bait, and whatever struck hit that motherfucker harder than hell.
September 2nd, 2012 at 11:09 PM
Nightcrawlers with a tiny spoon. Don’t take much – we were just on a pier. I wouldnt spend for minnows unless I was on a boat and perch fishing.
September 2nd, 2012 at 11:10 PM
Well, I guess I’m fucked.
September 2nd, 2012 at 11:11 PM
The only other thing I use off the pier is on occasion this jar of synthetic maggots. That jar has to be at least 8 years old (a bit larger than a old film cannister) and still 1/3 full. I’ve done great with some catfish with those since I got so I never bothered to look at much else.
September 2nd, 2012 at 11:17 PM

Maybe you have a different kind, but I had a jar like that but they were almost like styrofoam. It’s hard to describe the texture of them. But at any rate, they were fucking worthless. I caught one bluegill with them things and threw the rest in the trash.
September 2nd, 2012 at 11:25 PM

September 2nd, 2012 at 11:28 PM
It’s quite possible the catfish around here have learned to prefer the taste of styrofoam.

DeSean & Vick are not soft, but Maclin is as soft as they come.
