USA Basketball Defeats Spain For the Gold Medal
The United States men’s basketball team has taken home the gold medal once again, defeating Spain 107-100.
LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, and 87 other NBA All-Stars were surprisingly too much for Pau Gasol, his brother, and the incomparable Rudy Fernandez.
Fittingly, somehow, it was LeBron’s late 3-pointer that sent Spain to silver, which just a few months ago would feel completely odd to say for those who enjoy lazy narratives. He finished with 19 points and seven rebounds, and joins Michael Jordan as the only player to win the NBA regular-season MVP, NBA Finals MVP, NBA championship and Olympic gold in the same year. That’s a mouthful.
I have to say, between Coach K’s animated behavior — particularly the jumping — and the universal joy seen among the faces of the players on the USA sideline, it was a pleasure to watch.
The aforementioned Gasol, who in a couple months will be part of a filthy starting lineup, scored 24 points in defeat.

How come Kevin Love was seemingly the only player to ‘act like he has been there?’ The celebration was truly embarrassing to watch.

If you can’t celebrate after winning a Gold Medal when unlike every other team, that was the only acceptable result for you, when in the holy fuck can you celebrate? The fuck outta here with that noise.

My take away is that Carmelo is this* close to leading a team to a title.
*this is just LeBron

Celebrating is fine, the way they did it was way over the top. Especially when you are the NBA all-stars playing a roster that is about equivalent to the Denver Nuggets.

The dawgfather decides how much celebrating is too much celebrating, apparently.

If there was a COTD here at TBL, I’d nominate this gem right here. +1 to you, moleman.

That’s a nice sentiment for an after school special or from the coach of a Little League team. However, I’m of the mindset that grown men should be able to celebrate a championship anyway they want as long as they aren’t killing anyone.

Amen.
So guys that make millions aren’t allowed to celebrate when they win a title for their country? Which by the way they’re doing for free. Some of the backlash against these guys is truly dumbfounding.

Let’s not forget that those flopping, nut-punching, wannabe tough guy Argentinians lost to Russia. Great results all around today.

The question that I want to ask is: Was the competition faced by this team better than the ’92 Dream Team? The 1992 Dream Team never outscored their opponents by less than 32 points in a game.

It’s not even a question. The competition this team faced was much tougher than what the original Dream Team faced.

Haha. Even Simmons gave Kobe credit for what he did in the gold medal game. TBL didn’t picture him or mention him in a headline. It’s the awkward white boy dorkos in high school who do everything they can to befriend a black guy, even though the black guys could see right through them. These white boys jumped on this anti-Kobe bandwagon a decade ago that they thought would fill up with all ages, colors and creeds. Now, they look around and only see Simmons, Whitlock, Russillo, Abbott and Hollinger. Oops, thought that wagon would have more than just middle-aged white boy media types and the people they troll, huh?

I, for one, did not know that Whitlock was a middle-aged white boy media type. I guess you do learn something new everyday.
