England U-21 defender Danny Rose was subjected to racial abuse during their match in Serbia. Fans showered him with monkey chants (heard above). He also had stones and other projectiles thrown at him. Rose was red carded and accosted by Serbian players when he lashed out following the match. He kicked the ball into the crowd and made mock monkey gestures back at the fans. Rose told Sky Sports he had trouble concentrating during the match. The Serbian FA denied any racism occurred and criticized Rose for inciting the crowd.

Serbia is a repeat offender, so expect UEFA to lay down the hammer with an even harsher trivial fine. The governing body made clear its priorities last summer, when it fined Nicklas Bendtner twice what it fined Russia and Spain combined for racist incidents.
