Mark Sanchez Ass Fumble Made Things Easy for the New York Post
Mark Sanchez and the Jets were in the giving spirit on Thursday night, both with the Patriots and on a much grander scale, endless forms of sports media.
That of course, included the humorously vindictive New York Post, which to no surprise went with a headline of “Butt Ugly” to celebrate the ugly loss and Sanchez fumbling the ball off his own lineman’s ass. The inclusion of “heinous” in the subhead — to the direct right of Sanchez’s anus — did not go unnoticed.

i’m guessing we’ll see chip kelly as HC of the NYJ next year, with Alex Smith or Tony Romo on a 1 or 2 year deal while he drafts the QB of the future (that’s not from USC)

yeah, but they’re stuck with Sanchez, or a huge amount of dead cap money for next year.
Here’s how their allstar GM dealt with the tail end of his last deal, and his impending cap hit under the old rookie contract system.
November 23rd, 2012 at 12:45 PM
they can still keep sanchez and sign a QB that can at least make decisions or throw the ball down field.
sanchez is a mess and shouldn’t be starting for any NFL team right now.

Well, he’ll be on the roster next year, at least. Or at least past the start of the league year. Probably through training camp. But he can definitely lose his job next year based on my understanding of what I just read in that link.

except they are in cap hell. So they can’t sign a good QB. And they probably can’t even sign Mike Vick, because he’s going to want money enough to pay his creditors.

Stafford Burleson and Pettigrew for Sanchez, Revis, Mangold and Keller.

I don’t know that anybody would actually keep a QB so bad at such a price to be the backup. I think they might cut him loose. But they’ll probably end up with 20 league minimum guys to clean up the mess.
November 23rd, 2012 at 12:52 PM
Should have drafted lefty Matt Sanchez
November 23rd, 2012 at 12:53 PM
my predictions are based on the assumptions they also get a GM who understands how to structure a deal to give themselves flexibility to make personnel moves.
There will be some vets available, if Kaepernek is good, Alex SMith will be cut and good pick up for the jets.
the NYJ really need a coach/GM that can evaluate talent correctly. Tannenbaum/Ryan are great at identifying the Tier 2 level players, role players and back up players at a discount, but they can’t identify tier 1/star players with their draft and free agent methodology.

The Jets are in cap hell? I thought they had room under the cap to do stuff and they just weren’t doing it.
November 23rd, 2012 at 12:57 PM
Jets do have room, but the owner is cheap. he’s pissed the seats aren’t selling
November 23rd, 2012 at 12:57 PM

i can’t believe you thought that. What has happened to you?
November 23rd, 2012 at 12:58 PM
With Fireman Ed coming off the books, I expect a lot of changes.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:00 PM
Stafford Burleson and Pettigrew for Sanchez, Revis, Mangold and Keller.
Missing Rodney Stuck in this trade.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:01 PM
Jets do have room,
they have engineered cap space in the 2012 season at the expense of cap space in upcoming seasons. And they need to roll it over, because they have so much dead/potentially dead money next year.
There really weren’t moves they could have made once Revis went down with the cap room they’re showing (which is when I last remember you talking about this).
They’re having to deal with moves like signing David Harris to 29 million guaranteed (out of 36 total) over 4 years. That kind of move is pretty devastating.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:01 PM
the Jets notoriously cheap owner is going to eat the 8.25 mil he owes Sanchez next year? Yeah, right. No way.
9-7, 11-5, 8-8.
even at 4-7, there’s still time (and a weak sked) to get back to .500.
i get that people hate big-talking Rex. Media is enjoying the team’s struggles.
only scenario i can see him being in trouble is an arrest or losing the rest of the games

I’m not capologist, but it looks like this isn’t the “bottom out” year, and that next year will be worse than this year in terms of talent level.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:03 PM
i get that people hate big-talking Rex.
I pretty much hate big-talking Rob more, but that’s a specific-to-me problem.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:07 PM
6-10, 8-8, 10-6, 12-4. You know whose records those belong to? Brad Childress. He was fired in the middle of the next season. Rex is obviously a better coach than Chilly, but I’m not buying that Rex is immune.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:09 PM
don’t mistake getting another QB next year if a new coach comes in as cutting the chupacabra.
even if you’re generous the jets would still end up as 7-9. but it’s not out of the question they finish anywhere from 4-12 to 6-10 with their remaining schedule.
and if tannenbaum goes, there’s very few GM’s worth their salt that would take a job w/o being able to pick their HC. it’s worked out before when the GM already has a team on the right track from the predecessor, but when it’s a complete turnaround from players to front office to attitudes in the entire organization.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:27 PM
Didn’t the Jets have the highest payroll in the league the year there was no salary cap (I want to say 2010)?
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:28 PM
Good lord Iowa is a disaster in every way possible. I can’t believe I’m watching this game.
And great showing by Neb too.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:34 PM
yes, new GM comes in, meets with existing coach, and then makes a decision (presumably after next season).
given what Rex accomplished the first two years, PLUS the fact that the owner loves Rex, leads me to believe they’ll find a GM who likes him.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:36 PM
S1r – I’ll see your Childress records and raise you these:
6-10, 8-8, 8-8, 9-7, 6-10
Gary Kubiak.
After 6-10 went 10-6, made playoffs.
Now 10-1.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:38 PM
really do think Sanchez shouldn’t even be a focus. Build up weaker offensive positions (skill players, OL) and worry about QB AFTER next year.
The defense has really fallen off a cliff. check the stats on YPG 3 yrs ago vs. this year. Rush D has caved.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:40 PM
how long can you hold on to the “first two years” accomplishments when the team gets worse and worse?
and how long is Woody going to love Rex when the only backpage exposure they get is witty headlines from the latest embarrassing loss?
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:43 PM
at this point what you are seeing now is nearly 100% Rex’s team, before that, and the first two seasons of his tenure, a large number of the impact players who got them to those AFC Championship games were Mangini’s players.
like i said, i think Rex is a great co-ordinator when he only has to deal with schemes and player coaching.. running a team across all phases, including the player evaluation for starting players is very poor.

Looked at the pic. Laughed. Closed the website. Opened it again, looked at the pic again. Still laughing.
OT: I got misquoted in my hometown paper today –
http://www.gazette.com/news/chappelle-147622-thanksgiving-feed.html
Gave some pithy comments, and only one got used & that one was chopped in half. The media – what ya gonna do with ‘em?
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:47 PM
Iowa lost to a 5-6 Central Michigan team. But they came through in the clutch beating MSU. Hopefully they can somehow beat Nebraska so Michigan can go to the Rose Bowl
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:48 PM
Jets still have a nice defense despite the loss of Revis. Rex is a capable coach and d coordinator. But by the time the QB situation is remedied, the rest of the core will be aged. Will they keep with Rex 3-4 years to mature the next QB? Can they find a veteran QB to come in and somehow do it in their alotted cap space? Doesn’t seem as plausible as a new coach-gm tandem to come in and rebuild completely.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:52 PM
come on now, SROD, tell us about the rest of the quote.
looks like some real happy people in that picture.
what’s your duty when you volunteer there?
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:52 PM
SROD, humanized? What’s the second half of your quote?
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:52 PM
That’s nice SROD.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:56 PM
Good luck with that. It’s gonna be great when OSU scores their 7th TD and Urban goes for 2.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:57 PM
The defense has really fallen off a cliff. check the stats on YPG 3 yrs ago vs. this year. Rush D has caved.
which is a bummer for them, because they neglected other areas to draft Dlinemen high in both of the most recent drafts.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:57 PM
Fire Rex and Tannenbaum. This is the type of inconsistency a blowhard like Rex breeds.
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:58 PM
Gave some pithy comments, and only one got used & that one was chopped in half. The media – what ya gonna do with ‘em?
your name is Alma?
November 23rd, 2012 at 1:59 PM
Inconsistent? Sanchez is more predictable than a Swiss watch.
November 23rd, 2012 at 2:02 PM
Very nice, but from the link, I was expecting a story about Dave Chappelle dropping turkeys from a helicopter of something.
/God as my witness…
November 23rd, 2012 at 2:06 PM
One, sorry for showing off. Two, my name’s not Alma (ha!). Alma is my boss. Three, that was me at the bottom of the article.
The whole quote was my gratitude at the other volunteers who came out to help. They showed up by the dozens, with giving attitudes and a willingness to help. So, I mentioned that they could have been anywhere doing anything else, but they took time away from their families to help us. We appreciated their support, and wanted them to know it.
On paper, I was “director” of the event. In reality, I did whatever was needed. Moved tables, moved food, solved logistical problems (where to store stuff, helping obtain contributions), drove a shuttle bus to & from our sister homeless shelter and delivered some food to that same shelter at the end of the day.
Said all that to say this: efforts like this take place in every town, and not just on holidays. If any of you are so inclined, you can make a difference in the lives of your neighbours who are struggling.
OBTW: the reporter was cute. Blonde female, maybe 24-ish. Seemed friendly enough.
November 23rd, 2012 at 2:08 PM
Loss of Revis = a safety to help in pass coverage. one less body near the line. Also, the LBs are slow and old and overrated. I think 3 – Pace, Thomas, Scott – could be gone.
I’d like to trade down in the draft to get a lot of guys … but Te’o could seriously be in play. he seems better suited for 4-3, but Te’o/Harris in the middle of 3-4 could be nasty.
November 23rd, 2012 at 2:11 PM
That’s awesome, while it’s been a while since I’ve done an event of that scale they always are rewarding, especially on holidays. My wife does this 1-2 month.
November 23rd, 2012 at 2:15 PM
I’m not gonna lie, my gf wanted to help out at one of the missions in downtown L.A. and I told her I just didn’t have the energy to do it yesterday. Good work, SROD
November 23rd, 2012 at 2:18 PM
This is the Jets problem in a nutshell. How Johnson has yet to grasp that winning precedes popularity is mind-boggling.
November 23rd, 2012 at 2:21 PM
you play the motorboat?
November 23rd, 2012 at 2:23 PM
yeah, they didn’t get to brady all that much last night, despite the intentional grounding call they didn’t get to him as much as the normally did.
part of that was some of the offensive scheming to keep the defense guessing, but there was a lot of half step near misses on the jets d in crashing the pocket

don’t worry, you’ll get ‘em next time, champ.
just givin’ ya a hard time since the only volunteering i did yesterday was making sure the bottle of johnny walker black was lighter at the end of the night than when i got to my in laws yesterday.

When you hit the lottery you quit your job, just like Sanchez.
