On Monday a lot of Yankees fans decided to call up WFAN complaining how they wanted Lyle Overbay to start at first base over Mark Teixeira. Teixeira missed the first two months of the season with a wrist injury and fans complained on talk radio that he “struck out too much” or was “overpaid.” Fast forward to Monday night’s Yankees/Indians game and Teixeira silenced some doubters with a grand slam in the third inning. Sure it was aided by Yankee Stadium’s short porch in right field, but it was a grand slam nonetheless and helped New York go on to win 7-4.

Even more impressive was the young fan seated in the first row beyond the wall in right who caught the ball in his hat. He might have reached over the wall a little bit to pull the ball over the barrier, but Indians’ manager Terry Francona didn’t ask for a video replay (which the umpires would have probably screwed up anyway).

At the very least, YES should arrange a meeting between the kid and Paul O’Neill so he can teach the ex-Yankee how to properly catch a fly ball in his hat.
