Edmond Sumner has had an outstanding redshirt freshman season for No. 6 Xavier thus far, but on Thursday he was involved in the scariest scene of the young college basketball season.

As Sumner drove to the hoop early in his team’s contest with No. 16 Villanova, he ran smack into Nova forward Kris Jenkins. Sumner landed hard, flat on his back, but that wasn’t the worst of it. After the two collided in midair, Jenkins’ legs were swept from under him and all 240 pounds of him landed directly on Sumner’s head.

Sumner appeared to be knocked out cold on the court and had to be stretchered out of the building.

Entering today Sumner was averaging 11.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game for the surprising Musketeers. Hopefully, the incident wasn’t as bad as it looked.
