Dolores Lozano is the former Baylor student who told Joe Schad that former Baylor running back Devin Chafin assaulted her on multiple occasions. She is planning on filing a Title IX lawsuit against the University, and alleges that former head coach Art Briles knew about the allegations, and that she exchanged texts with Chafin’s position coach, Jeff Lebby.

In a case of high-profile stories colliding, Lozano, an aspiring sports writer, provided her thoughts about the accusations made against Peyton Manning, and the re-raising of the Manning story from when he was in college in 1997 at the University of Tennessee. Writing at ESPN Houston back in February, Lozano had this to say about Peyton Manning accuser Jamie Naughright.

" The possibility she “shared responsibility” in the harassment would not surprise me. Archie Manning suggested Naughright was having sex with student-athletes in the dorms. Although there is no evidence to support her infidelity with students at the University of Tennessee, I do not doubt that the suggestion is untrue. Improper relationships between institutional staff and student-athletes are surprisingly very common. If Dr. Jamie Naughright was a respectable woman, this locker room prank could have been avoided. Let me sip my tea… It is likely her allegations were made to cover up her promiscuity and collect some cash. On top of the lawsuits with the Manning family, Naughright sued Donna Karan over an “overly aggressive” massage in the fashion designer’s bedroom. I’m not saying she’s a gold digger, but I see a pattern of lawsuits from the doctor. Maybe she can help Kanye get out of debt?"

That seems a bit reckless in its speculation about promiscuity and victim blaming when it comes to bringing a locker room prank on oneself.

Let’s not engage in that in this case. It is fair, though, to point out that questions of fact remain regarding Lozano’s claims, and how they were portrayed at the time, and to whom.

Speaking with KWTX, Chafin acknowledged that he grabbed Lozano to restrain her in April 2014 but denied hitting, kicking, slapping or slamming her. The Waco Police said that an April 2014 incident was reported to them in which she said she was grabbed by Chafin and her arm slammed into a car door. They said she refused a protective order and refused to let officers take pictures at the time (Schad posted pictures yesterday), and stopped cooperating.

The story also notes that Chafin disputes that Art Briles knew. Coach Lebby reportedly made him lift extra weights after learning of the incident.
