Wayne Rooney Drew a Straight Red Card for Kicking Stewart Downing
By Mike Cardillo

Wayne Rooney scored a goal in the first half of Manchester United’s game Saturday vs. West Ham. Captain Rooney also decided to hack out at Stewart Downing in the second half, earning a straight red card for his ill-timed swing of the leg — about five feet away from referee Lee Mason’s field of vision.
Believe it or not, it’s Rooney’s first straight red card playing for United since 2009. Rooney will now be suspended for games vs. Everton, West Brom and Chelsea.
Wayne Rooney gets the *2nd* straight red card of his PL career. Other was in 2002 vs Birmingham.
