Warren Sapp Says Michael Strahan, Selected to Same Number of Pro Bowls and All Pros as Sapp, Unworthy of the Hall of Fame

Warren Sapp does not like Michael Strahan, and if he had his way, Strahan would not be in the Hall of Fame. “I don’t think his resume stacks up when you put Tony Dungy, Walter Jones, Marvin Harrison and Derrick Brooks up. Those are four first-ballot Hall of Famers.”

When you stack it up,” Sapp said, “and he only has four straight Pro Bowls [actually three straight on two different occasions] and a mythical sack record that y’all still walk around like it’s something to be praised — I mean y’all have got to get off your high horse in New York and speak about the real. And when you really measure him up, he comes up short.”

So let’s get real.

Warren Sapp: 13 years played, 7 Pro Bowls, 4 first team All-Pro selections

Michael Strahan: 15 years played, 7 Pro Bowls, 4 first team All-Pro selections

So, basically, Sapp is saying that Strahan does not have a Hall of Fame resumé, when he has the exact same number of both Pro Bowl appearances and All Pro selections as Sapp. Let’s be clear: both are Hall of Famers, and Strahan will be selected soon enough. We cannot hold replacing Regis Philbin or continuously saying silly things on television against you.

Sapp seems to draw some sort of distinction because he made his pro bowls in seven straight seasons. Strahan, on the other hand, was not selected in 2000 (the Giants did make the Super Bowl that season) and made the pro bowl in 7 of 9 seasons (he also missed out in 2004 when injured half the season).

Making seven straight Pro Bowls is not a requirement for being in the Hall of Fame. Seventy-six of the players enshrined in Canton who began their careers after 1950 didn’t even make seven Pro Bowls, total, in their career. Michael Strahan will get in. Warren Sapp’s info is as wrong on this as he was on the identity of the Bounty-gate snitch.
