North Carolina State coach Elliott Avent momentarily lost his mind after a close 3-2 pitch went against his team on Monday afternoon. The Wolfpack leader came charging out of the dugout to confront home plate umpire Scott Higgins, a rather imposing man. When other members of the umpiring crew attempted to break things up, Avent employed a spin move that will make Dwight Freeney proud. `
The irate manager proceeded to get his money’s worth, giving Higgins two earfuls’ worth of constructive feedback.
Avent was suspended for two games following the outburst, meaning he’ll miss North Carolina State’s first Super Regional game should the team prevail when action in a winner-take-all matchup against Coastal Carolina resumes Tuesday afternoon.
Worth it? Probably not, but shout out to ageless agility in all its forms.
