Marshall Plumlee scored 23 points on 9-10 shooting, and added TK rebounds, as Duke held off UNC-Wilmington 93-85 in the first game of the NCAA Tournament. Duke headed into halftime trailing 43-40, but Plumlee fired it up a notch in the second half.

Before today, Plumlee averaged 8.6 points per game this season. His previous season high was 21 points, and he scored just 2 points in Duke’s ACC Tournament loss in overtime to Notre Dame. Today, the senior fouled out with a little over two minutes remaining as Duke had an 8-point lead.

The game was generally disjointed, as 51 fouls were called, including 33 on UNCW. Hopefully this is not indicative of the pacing of these games going forward in the Tournament.
