March Madness is also going on for the women of college basketball. Today, in the first round of women’s NCAA basketball action, the #1 seed Connecticut Huskies beat Idaho 105-37. Yes, a 68-point victory for the 7-time national champions. Before you get too impressed, know that it wasn’t even the biggest margin of victory in tournament history. From ESPN:

It wasn’t the biggest margin of victory ever in an NCAA tournament game. That belongs to Tennessee which beat North Carolina A&T by 74 points in 1994.

UConn had first-round wins of 71 points over Hampton in 2000 and 72 against Long Island in 2001.

The Huskies beat Kansas State 72-26 in last year’s tournament, the record for fewest points in a game.

If you’re looking for another reason the 68-point win is no big deal, the UConn women’s team beat Holy Cross by 80 in November 2010. So, yeah, whatever, I’ve seen bigger. The other #1 seeds in the women’s tournament, Notre Dame, Stanford and Baylor, all play tomorrow.
