Trailer For Steve Gleason Documentary Is Heart-Wrenching

Steve Gleason has long been an inspiration for sports fans. The former New Orleans Saints special teams standout was diagnosed with ALS in 2011, and a new documentary about his battle with the disease was screened at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

Gleason and his wife learned she was pregnant shortly after he was diagnosed with ALS, and they immediately began documenting as much of their lives as they could. Gleason’s purpose was to pass on as much of himself as he could to his future son, since ALS is almost always fatal.

“Gleason” has received rave reviews from critics. The film chronicles his battle with ALS but balances that with Gleason’s duties as a father. His son, Rivers, was born in 2011.

A trailer for the film has been released and it is heart-wrenching, but also has an uplifting message.
