Tony Romo Has Broken Bone In Back, Out 6-10 Weeks

Tony Romo won’t be on the field any time soon according to the Dallas Cowboys. Head coach Jason Garrett announced on Saturday that Romo had suffered a broken bone in his back and there was no timetable for his return. A source later told Mike Florio that Romo could be back on the field in six to 10 weeks.

With this news it looks like rookie Dak Prescott will be the Cowboys starter under center when the season kicks off. The Mississippi State product has been excellent in the preseason. The fourth-round pick has completed 22 of 27 passes for 338 yards, with four passing touchdowns, two rushing scores and no interceptions.

The 36-year-old Romo played in just four games during the 2015 season thanks to a broken left collarbone he suffered in Week 2. He later injured his left shoulder in Week 12, which ended his season. Even if he returns, the four-time Pro Bowler will have missed more than a full season’s worth of games over the last two years.
