The Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers have tipped off at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon in what should be an excellent matchup between two of the NBA Western Conference’s top playoff contenders. The Blazers return to the comforts of home after a hefty road slate, while the Thunder need to return to form and reverse their recent slump.

This is a very important game for both teams in terms of Playoff seeding: OKC and Portland are involved in a three-team tie for third place in the West with the Houston Rockets, and all three are desperate to avoid a first-round matchup against each other – or at least want the first-round homecourt advantage that comes with finishing in fourth place. The Thunder have already won the tiebreaker against the Blazers, so Portland needs to win this tilt to have a one-game advantage in the standings. And judging by recent form, OKC may be in trouble on Thursday night.

OKC: Losing Paul George to a shoulder injury after the All-Star break was a bigger deal than the Thunder expected, and OKC hasn’t played well even after George’s return. The MVP candidate is still looking to find his shooting again, and Russell Westbrook’s inconsistent season at the offensive end isn’t helping at the moment. But the Thunder always seem to rise up and bring their A-game against the best teams in the league, and they’ll certainly need to do that to get a victory in one of the toughest arenas in the NBA.

Trail Blazers: Despite a very successful road trip, the Blazers are happy to be home again. The 9-point loss to the Grizzlies on Tuesday night hurt them a bit in the standings and made this game against the Thunder a near-must-win. All the turnovers committed in Memphis frustrated coach Terry Stotts and captain Damian Lillard, but the two promised the issue will be corrected for this one, so expect the Blazers to come out firing on all cylinders looking to beat a division rival.
