This POV Footage from the Iditarod (and Its Lack of Snow) is Crazy

Four-time winner Iditarod Jeff King filmed this helmet-cam footage of the race earlier this week. As you can see a lot of the trail in the Rainy Pass portion of the 1,000 mile dog sled race lacks a crucial ingredient: snow.

I knew the Iditarod was grueling and that the cold/elements made it one of the most difficult races of any kind in the world. This footage sheds an entirely new light on the competition, since at times it looks more like the speeder chase on Endor from “Return of the Jedi” than it does a dog race in Alaska.
