Andrew Eugene Pettitte will live forever in New York Yankees history, as his face was engraved on a plaque into the Yankees’ famous ‘Monument Park’ — and his number was retired by the franchise before today’s game vs. the Cleveland Indians.

Pettitte threw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch — and his buddy, reliable backstop, and fellow Yankee legend Jorge Posada was there to catch it.

Pettitte premised his speech by elaborating how humbled he was to receive this honor…

"“It makes me a little uncomfortable being honored like this … I did not play this game for personal recognition.”"

And continued:

"“Through it all, this place has become home to me and my family … It’s hard to believe a kid born in Baton Rouge, La., living in Deer Park, Texas, would find a second home in New York. Thank you for supporting me, for getting on me when I needed it and accepting me. There is no better place because of you. Thank you for the best fans in the world,”"

Andy Pettitte: An immortal Yankee.
