Stephen A. Smith Calls Yankees Closer With Mariano Rivera-esque Stats "Non-Closer"

Stephen A. Smith has opinions on things. Baseball for instance. Mariano Rivera retired before last year so the Yankees new closer(s?) obviously suck. Just last night some dude named Andrew Miller blew a save before the Yankees’ bats bailed him out with 3 runs in the top of the 10th to beat the Blue Jays, 6-4.

The only problem is that the Yankees are 77-0 this season when leading after 8 innings. And it was just Miller’s second blown save of the season in 36 opportunities (94.4%). He has a 5.17 K/BB ratio, .855 WHIP, and surrendered just 13 earned runs in 56 appearances. He’s tied for 6th in MLB in games finished and 8th in MLB for saves.

In 2013, Rivera’s final year as the Yankees’ All-Star closer, Rivera blew 7 saves in 51 opportunities (86.3%). He had a K/BB ratio of 6, 1.047 WHIP, and gave up 15 earned runs in 64 appearances. Numbers Andrew Miller might reach if he really stinks the last few weeks of the season.
