St. Louis Billikens New Mascot is a Creepy Improvement

The St. Louis Billiken’s unveiled their new mascot this week. The Billiken has a modernized, two-toned face. Unsurprisingly, the reaction to the new mascot wasn’t great.
Keep in mind that a Billiken is a made-up good luck charm doll. It wasn’t exactly much of a looker in the first place. It is a terrifying creature that almost defies description. It’s like someone stuck Voldemort’s face on a potato head and an underclassman’s body. It looks like a bat got home from work and took off its wings and got punched in the balls. It looks like someone hit a poorly drawn picture of Judge Doom in the face with a shovel. People of St. Louis, do not be attached to your ugly thing.
To the school’s credit, they’re steering into the skid.
First days can be rough, but I know how things “ought to be.” And I still feel lucky to be the Billiken. pic.twitter.com/kt4OdKDguD

The St. Louis University president also responded to the online protest, saying the Billiken was simply going through puberty. This means that they’re probably already sinking millions into their next revamped mascot. It will probably wear sunglasses.
Change is hard. @The_Billiken is currently going through puberty. Like us, his awkwardness is best met with compassion. https://t.co/IWyIf8Mhu9
