Snoop Dogg and his son made a big deal out of his Signing Day commitment to UCLA when he was a high school recruit. Then, before ever hitting the practice field for the Bruins, Cordell Broadus decided he was giving up the game to focus on being a student. Now the 6-foot-2, 200-pound receiver appears to want back in.

According to Bruin Report Online, Broadus has been working out again and plans to join UCLA at spring practice when it opens on March 29. Since he surrendered his scholarship to become a regular student, he will be participating as a walk-on. While that’s certainly a change, I’m pretty sure his family can afford it.

Broadus was a much-hyped recruit during his early high school days and he showed well at a few showcase events. But as his career wore on he dropped off in the eyes of many evaluators and several schools backed off of recruiting him. Playing for Las Vegas powerhouse Bishop Gorman gave scouts a chance to see him match up against other top talent. He didn’t show very well in games.

That said, Broadus is a big target and I’m sure UCLA will love to have another one of those around. At worst he’ll be a reserve receiver with the chance to grow and mature into a solid player.
