Baylor defensive end Shawn Oakman is being investigated for sexual assault, according to multiple reports out of Waco. He has not been arrested and charged at this time. This news comes less than a month before the NFL draft, and Oakman was already someone seen as likely to fall to the final day of the draft, before this news. The NFL.com draft profile said “Oakman will be a polarizing figure in draft rooms across the league due to juxtaposition between his physique and production.”

The allegations stem from the night of April 2nd and early morning hours of April 3rd. Oakman happened to tweet this message out a few hours later.

The accuser said she met Oakman at a Waco bar, went to his duplex, and that “he “forced” her into his bedroom and “forcibly removed” her clothing before sexually assaulting her.” Oakman claimed that their sexual encounter was consensual.

Oakman played at Baylor, where the program was under criticism last year for how the University handled Samuel Ukwuachu, who was convicted of sexually assaulting a former Baylor student, after transferring into the football program. This Spring, Art Briles had added a “Real Men Respect Women” sign to the practice field.

The Texas Monthly piece on the arrest noted that Oakman (who transferred from Penn State) was even held up as a counter-example success story of second-chance transfers into the program in this earlier profile of Oakman at Bleacher Report.
