Washington’s baseball team used to be known as the Senators. They were largely inept, winning one World Series in sixty years before moving to Minnesota.

In a completed unrelated note, Senator Harry Reid tried to make an analogy to baseball. Of course, he nailed it. The Washington team, coached by Davey Johnson, is known as the “National Mets.” (around :20 mark).  The Mets organization will get blamed for this LOL moment.

Harry Reid also says Adam LaRoche is “swell,” a term coincidentally last uttered in the hallowed chambers when Walter Johnson was a Senator.
