David Coleman Jr., a semi-professional football player for the Jay County Panthers, died Saturday after being hit during a charity game to benefit ALS. Coleman played linebacker and defensive line. He was 32 years old.
From the Toledo Blade:
"Sgt. Todd Shelton of the Holland Police Department said the game was staffed by emergency medical workers, who rushed to the field to provide aid immediately after Mr. Coleman went down. The incident occurred at 3:30 p.m. during a game against Toledo’s Northwest Ohio Knights. Sergeant Shelton said the incident appeared to be an accident, with no indication of foul play involved."
The Panthers play in the “Crossroads Football League” with teams from Indiana and Ohio. Rosters are filled by former college and high school football players. They use NFL rules.
