Sam Vokes erased all doubt about the outcome of Wales’ Euro 2016 quarterfinal match with Belgium on Friday evening. The 26-year-old striker buried a header in the 85th minute to give The Dragons a 3-1 lead and clinch Wales’ first appearance in a major semifinal.

What a goal. What a performance. I’m still stunned at how well Wales held up against Belgium’s relentless attack. In truth, the Welsh were the better team for most of the match. After falling behind 1-0 in the 13th minute, they regrouped and looked on level footing with the world’s No. 2 team for the rest of the contest.

The outpouring of absolute joy from Welsh fans and players was amazing to see.

Wales had never made an appearance in the UEFA European Championship, and now the country is set for a semifinals appearance. Amazing.
