Sam Grossman, better known as “Sam the Bugler” at the Saratoga Race Course, was arrested early Saturday morning for DWI. Grossman, one of the more well-known figures at Saratoga, is the official bugler for the New York State Racing Association. He calls the horses to the post before every race at Saratoga Race Course. Today is the 144th running of the Travers Stakes, the biggest day of the year at Saratoga and Grossman will not be playing the bugle.

In a now unfortunate choice of words, Grossman called Saratoga an “intoxicating mix of work and play” in an interview earlier this year. In 2005, Saratoga gave away bobbleheads of Grossman’s likeness.
