Russell Westbrook Raised the Roof After Thunderous Dunk

There was once a time in this country when “rasing the roof” was simply the coolest thing a person could do. But then moms, teachers, youth pastors and other lame adults started doing it — taking away all the fun. For more than a decade the move has only been used ironically.

But last night Russell Westbrook bravely took the first step toward bringing it back. The Oklahoma City Thunder guard lifted his hands to the sky in classic 1990s fashion after throwing down a ferocious dunk in the waning minutes of a victory over the Denver Nuggets.

Will sociologists point to this moment as the catalyst for raising the roof’s renaissance or was it merely a throwaway moment in a regular season NBA game?

Only time will tell.
