Robbie Hummel had an incredible game, as the Purdue Boilermakers jumped on the Kansas Jayhawks from the opening tip. Hummel finished with 26 points and 9 rebounds as he clearly did not want his college career to come to an end.

Purdue frustrated Thomas Robinson all game, and held onto a 6 point lead at the half. They continued to lead for the first 37 minutes of the game. Elijah Johnson, who had the game of his career for Kansas (18 points) hit a three pointer with 3:01 remaining, giving Kansas its first lead of the game.

Purdue then extended it back to a three point lead, but the Boilermakers had two consecutive bad offensive possessions, resulting in breaks for Kansas to take a lead. The second came on a steal and a pass ahead to Elijah Johnson for a layup with 23 seconds remaining. Purdue had a good look for Hummel, but he missed a three pointer that would have given the Boilermakers a late lead.

After a Tyshaun Taylor dunk with 2.5 seconds left following the Hummel miss, Purdue got the ball to Ryne Smith running down the sideline, but his desperation attempt to tie hit off the backboard.

Kansas survives a game when they shot 33% from the field, and now move on to play NC State in the Midwest Regional.
