Reggie Jackson Wants To Sell You The Old Yankee Stadium Sign

In case anyone out there forgot, Reggie Jackson loves the New York Yankees. How much does Mr. October cherish his former team? Back in 2008 he bought the giant Yankee Stadium letters adorning the old stadium in the Bronx prior to its demolition.

What exactly he did with the letters remains a mystery, but the Associated Press reports that Jackson is putting the sign up for auction at Sotheby’s where it’s expected to fetch between $300,000 – $600,000. It sounds like Jackson didn’t have much trouble acquiring the sign himself:

"“There were a few items I wanted to purchase before the old Yankee Stadium was torn down, including my old locker and a section of the black bleachers off of centerfield,” he added. “But I kept thinking about the stadium lettering, and if there was any way for me to own it. I ended up making an offer and was thrilled when it was accepted. It’s been a privilege to own such a recognizable piece of baseball history.”"

Apparently the letters in the sign run from between two feet and 10 feet in width, so you’re going to need a lot of room to properly display them. Some super-rich Yankees fan probably has a model stadium of their own, which would seem to be the only practical use for these giant Plexiglas letters. I guess if you’re rich enough to spend money on this sort of lavish, impractical baseball memorabilia you can figure out what to do with it after the fact.
