Reds Manager Bryan Price Dropped 77 F-Bombs in Rant on the Cincy Media [AUDIO]

Reds manager Bryan Price flipped out at the Cincinnati baseball media on Monday afternoon. The crux of the Price’s beef, per Enquirer beat writer C. Trent Rosecrans, is about information. Price got mad that Rosecrans reported Devin Mesoraco, who is injured, wasn’t with the team. Price argued it shouldn’t be the media’s job to report information such as that, as it would alert opponents. In this instance, that Mesoraco was unavailable to pinch hit.

Turns out a little beef between the manager and the local press is going to spread across the baseball world thanks to a five-minute profanity-laced tirade. Rosecrans transcribed it and writes Price dropped 77 f-bombs during the rant.

Here’s a taste, although you really ought to read the whole thing.

Your job is not to sniff out every f****** thing is about the Reds and f****** put it out there for every other f****** guy to hear. It’s not your job. You want me to be candid with you? I’ve been candid with you. I f****** talk to you guys like men, I tell you what the f***’s going on with the team, I tell you how I’m feeling as candidly as I can and then this s***? You’ve got to watch this f****** s***? I’ve got to f****** read that on a f****** Tweet on our own people in here that we don’t have a f****** player? How the f*** does that benefit the Reds? It doesn’t benefit us one f****** bit. God **** we try to go out there and win f****** games and I got to come in here and then you guys f****** blow it all over the f****** place? Who we can play? Who we can’t? I’ll tell you what you want to know, I’m not going to f****** lie to you. I didn’t tell you f****** s***.

A couple things to unpack here, although players can get away with a no-comment stance with the media, Price hinting he’d answer questions, “I’ll go, ‘yes sir, no sir.'” is not going work long-term as a baseball manager. Managers deal with the press almost every day for six months both before and after games. There are ways to do it, without being too revealing. Look no further than Derek Jeter, who spent his entire career in New York answers every question and “can you talk about” with the blandest platitudes possible.

The more important thing is the disconnect between reporters and team personnel, in this case the manager. During his rant Price says about reporting that Mesoraco wasn’t at the park, “How the f*** does that benefit the Reds? It doesn’t benefit us one f****** bit.”

Well … there’s a tiny problem: the independent media is not part of the team, it’s not their duty to use information to help the Reds win ball games. If the Reds were to win the World Series I don’t think Rosecrans would receive a ring.

Price even buried himself further in his rant saying, “You know why f****** Billy Hamilton didn’t f****** play? The other day? Because his f****** finger’s hurt and he couldn’t hit right-handed comfortably. Right? So that’s something that I need to know and no one else needs to know.”

So he also revealed another player is injured. Smart.

There is an art to dealing with the media and then there is what Price did today.
