Bryant, a former Top 50 overall recruit, had already been suspended for the first four games. He rushed for 289 yards and three touchdowns on 54 carries as a sophomore last season. He was expected to play a greater role this season.
That news isn’t great for Notre Dame’s depth chart. Tarean Folston is now the only experienced back on the roster. C.J. Prosise, a slot WR last season, is expected to be in the RB mix as well. He had 10 carries last year. Bryant’s absence may not be that significant, unless someone gets hurt, playing football.
Notre Dame had an academic scandal involving multiple players last August. QB Everett Golson was suspended for an academic issue the summer before.
