NFL Week 14 Bests & Worsts: Le'Veon Bell Gets All Historical

Every week, we’ll go through some of the best and worst of the notable Sunday performances and plays. Here they are for Week 14.

Offensive Player of the Week: Le’Veon Bell, Steelers

Bell was astonishingly good on Sunday, rushing for 236 yards and three touchdowns on 38 carries. He averaged 6.2 yards per rush while also catching four passes for 62 yards. His 236 yards on the ground broke the Steelers single-game record (Willie Parker held the previous mark of 223). His 298 yards topped Pittsburgh’s opponent, the Buffalo Bills, who had just 275 yards of total offense.

Through just 10 games, Bell already has 1,616 yards from scrimmage, the second-most in NFL history, only Jim Brown in 1963 had more through 10 games with 1,704.

So far this season, Bell has rushed for 1,053 yards on 218 carries (4.8 yards per carry). He missed the first three games of the season after being suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy in December.

With their win over the Bills on Sunday the Steelers have a one-game lead in the AFC North, and Bell is a huge reason why.

Defensive Player of the Week: Vic Beasley, Falcons

Beasley was a monster on Sunday against the Rams, racking up 3.0 sacks and forcing a fumble that he scooped up and scored on. The Falcons harassed Rams rookie quarterback Jared Goff all day in a 42-14 win, and Beasley had the Cal product hearing footsteps for 60 minutes.

Beasley’s 13.5 sacks are now tied for the NFL lead with Denver’s Von Miller. The former first-round pick has come into his own in his second season, dominating off the edge for the Falcons.

Most Impressive Rookie of the Week: DeForest Buckner, 49ers

Buckner has had a quietly successful rookie season, but he blew up on Sunday during a 23-17 loss to the Jets. The massive rookie out of Oregon racked up a career-high 11 tackles, including 10 solo stops and 2.0 sacks. At 6’7″ and 300 pounds, Buckner is shockingly explosive for his size. The massive defensive end has shown a remarkable combination of speed and strength and has been a rare bright spot for the 49ers this season.

So far on the year, Buckner has 65 tackles and 5.0 sacks. He’s already becoming an intimidating force along the defensive line and at just 22 looks like a future star.

Hottest Seat of the Week: Gus Bradley, Jaguars

Gus Bradley is now 14-47 in four years as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. After a 25-16 loss to the Vikings on Sunday, the Jags have now lost eight in a row and looked terrible in doing so.

Now that Jeff Fisher has been canned, Bradley is at the top of the hot seat rankings. Frankly, I can’t believe he hasn’t been fired yet.

Randy Fasani Award: Russell Wilson, Seahawks

What the hell was that Russell? Wilson and the Seahawks suffered their worst defeat in a few seasons on Sunday when the Packers slapped them around 38-10 at Lambeau. Willson was terribad, completing 22 of 39 passes for 240 yards, one touchdown and FIVE interceptions. Wait, how many interceptions was that?

Right, thank you Dave Chappelle.

That’s just a horrible decision and a worse throw. Wilson finished the week with a passer rating of 43.7 and a Total QBR of 23.3. On a scale of 1 to 10, his performance sucked.

The Seahawks are now 8-4-1, lead the NFC West by three games and are still in contention for a first-round bye in the playoffs. Sunday’s performance against the Packers was bad, but Wilson and Seattle can bounce back and be fine.

*The Randy Fasani Award is given weekly to the NFL quarterback who turns in the worst performance. Fasani is the award’s namesake because he had one career start and turned in a 0.0 passer rating. That makes him the worst starting quarterback in NFL history.
