NFL Players and Owners, Everyone's Looking At You, Oh

When I saw the headline on ESPN.com today that said “Sources: NFLPA will work through weekend,” I was reminded that on July 23, 1986*, Canadian rock ‘n’ roll juggernaut, Loverboy took the stage at Expo ’86 in Vancouver to preform their seminal hit, “Working For The Weekend.” Conveniently, today is the 25th anniversary of that momentous occasion. Never before have Mike Reno’s immortal words hit as close to home as they do during the current NFL lockout.

Everyone’s watching, to see what you will do
Everyone’s looking at you, oh
Everyone’s wondering, will you come out tonight
Everyone’s trying to get it right, get it right

Everybody’s working for the weekend
Everybody wants a little romance
Everybody’s goin’ off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, oh
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby lets go

Everyone’s looking to see if it was you
Everyone wants you to come through
Everyone’s hoping it’ll all work out
Everyone’s waiting they’re holding out

Everybody’s working for the weekend
Everybody wants a little romance
Everybody’s goin’ off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, oh
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby lets go

You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby lets go

You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby lets go

Don’t you see, NFL? If you really want a piece of the heart of football fans, you better get this right. The fans are all waiting to see what you will do. While the players and owners are holding out, fans are going off the deep end. Luckily, we know that sometimes, you need a second chance. Just end the lockout. Come on baby, let’s go.
