The Michigan State Spartans and Oregon Ducks will headline the Redbox Bowl for the first time in either team’s history at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on New Year’s Eve.

Monday’s clash will see two squads collide after their regular season hopes for a division title were dashed, meaning both teams will be hopeful of at least clinching some bowl success to see out the year.

The Spartans will take comfort in knowing they have the edge over Monday’s opponents in terms of their recent bowl activity, having won five of their last six postseason contests.

Oregon, on the other hand, has lost their last three bowl matches. They succumbed to Ohio State in the CFP National Championship in 2015 and have slipped further from prominence since, falling to Texas Christian University and Boise State in the Alamo Bowl and Las Vegas Bowl, respectively.

Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert will gain a large portion of the spotlight in Santa Clara after recently announcing he’d be foregoing the NFL Draft and will instead return for his senior year.  If Oregon needed a boost in confidence leading up to their Bowl clash, that was it.

But Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio has his Spartans running a physical defense typical of a Big Ten team, that could be the key to a nice victory to cap off the season.
