Bartolo Colon — a professional baseball player — made a routine play on a ground ball Thursday night in the Mets’ win over the Yankees. The portly 43-year-old pitcher ranged dozens of feet to right to field a Gary Sanchez chopper and fired to first in time to get the slow-footed catcher.

There was little to suggest Colon would have the athleticism required to handle such a chance outside of the hundreds of similar plays he’s made during his 20-year career, so naturally the internet is very excited.

Far be it for me to be a hater, but at a certain point we should consider treating Colon like an accomplished, well-rounded athlete and not someone’s kid brother. He’s well-compensated for performing baseball actions, including sprinting short distances and standing in the batter’s box.

Treating every single thing he does as if it’s an adorable bit of goofiness moves from funny to demeaning at some point. I’d argue that line is being aggressively toed.
