MLB Wants To Expand Playoffs With Two More Wild Card Teams and Two 1-Game Playoffs

Under the new plan, two Wild Card teams would come out of the American and National Leagues instead of just one. The two Wild Card teams would meet in a one-game playoff to advance to the Divisional Series. That’s right. MLB’s playoff expansion consists of two teams and two games. You might think that such a small addition was kind of pointless when you consider the fact that this is tacked onto a 162 game season that lasts from April to September with playoffs that roll into the early part of November.

It seems pointless to me. Baseball is all about the grind and teams being better over the long run. I understand the use of a 1-game playoff to break ties, but this seems silly. I guess it’s an easy way to squeeze a few extra bucks of fans and advertisers though. So there’s that.
