Which state has the highest concentration of players on Division I basketball rosters as we enter the 2016-2017 season? The answer is Maryland, according to research by Rukkus.

They went through the rosters and hometowns of all players, and put together several cool interactive maps for college basketball fans, including this one, which shows the number of Division I basketball players from each state, per 100,000 citizens.

After Maryland (2.70 players per 100,000), the top 5 is rounded out by Louisiana (2.59), North Carolina (2.30), Mississippi (2.21), and Georgia (2.20).

If you look at the raw total number of players from individual cities, New York City (all five boroughs) ranks number #1 with 111, followed by Chicago (88), Houston (72), Philadelphia (56), and Los Angeles (51).

The Rukkus interactives contain all sorts of cool info on where players are from, and you can break it down by types of schools, conferences, and regions.
