LSU and Alabama are set to face off on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. on CBS in Baton Rouge in a game that could have college football playoff implications at stake. As our own Ty Duffy points out, LSU narrowly lost to Wisconsin and Auburn on the road and has a chance to go 7-1 in the SEC with wins against Alabama, Texas A&M, and Florida (twice, potentially) down the stretch. That would put them in position to grab a spot in the college football playoff.

The Tigers, who released the hype video above, appear rejuvenated and fresh under interim head coach Ed Orgeron. Orgeron hopes to win the job with his performance after taking over for the fired Les Miles. He’s off to a great start, and on Saturday he will have a big opportunity to advance his name up a list of what is really only three candidates, including himself.

On the other side of the field, Alabama has done nothing but dominate opponents, so much so that it has caused some to view them as having faced inferior competition. The Crimson Tide can’t help it if they punish teams when they are ranked and cause lasting effects that change their seasons. Their defense ranks fourth, but their rushing defense that ranks first in the country and allows on average only 70 yards per game. That’s 20 yards better than second place. Last year they held LSU Heisman Trophy hopeful Leonard Fournette to 31 yards. In fact, since 2008 the Alabama defense has only given up 100 yards to a running back seven times, the next closest team is LSU at 25.

Whatever happens on Saturday, it will likely be exciting and close. The last five games have been won by Alabama, but the last four contests in Baton Rouge have been decided by seven points or less and have come down to the final minutes each time.

For the first time in a long time I am actually excited about this game.
