Look Out Case Keenum, Jared Goff Is Now No. 2 on the Depth Chart

In a move that seems to signal the inevitable, Jared Goff this week rose from emergency quarterback to No. 2 quarterback on the Los Angeles Rams’ depth chart, and with nothing but Case Keenum separating Goff from the starting job, the beginning of the Jared Goff era appears to be imminent.

Keenum went 17-for-35 for 130 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in a 28-0 loss to the 49ers last week. There has been talk that Goff isn’t ready for the NFL, which would obviously explain the Rams’ predicament — stuck between a starter who should really be a backup and a rookie who is destined (but not ready) to be the starter.

The Rams can probably string this out a couple more weeks, but anything beyond that would start to get silly. There are times when a first-round quarterback can benefit from playing backup for a while, but this is hardly Aaron Rodgers waiting behind Brett Favre.

Let the boy play.
