Vanderbilt Commodores head coach Kevin Stallings has accepted the vacant Pitt job, after Jamie Dixon left for TCU.

On paper, the hire won’t enthuse Pitt fans hoping Dixon’s departure would reinvigorate the program, which has not gone past the Round of 32 since 2009.

The 55-year-old Stalling has lost at least 14 games each of the past four seasons. His Commodores have not reached the 64-team NCAA Tournament field since 2012. He has won just one NCAA Tournament game since reaching the Sweet 16 in 2007. He has a below .500 career winning percentage in the SEC.

This hire will be interesting for Pitt’s Sheldon Jeter. Stallings blocked his transfer from Vanderbilt to Pitt in 2013.
