Jordan Spieth is at the end of his long cash grab tour, and there’s no surprise he’s performing well again. Spieth finished his opening round with a four-under, 67, and is currently second behind Keith Horne. Although his round was great and he’s in contention to win yet again, he still wasn’t 100% pleased with himself.

"“I felt like the entire day today was very stress-free driving the ball, which is the most important part out there, but from there I just couldn’t get it on the right tier,” the 22-year-old American said. “I just couldn’t quite get the right distance. My distance control was just off, trying to judge the wind, the humidity and the heat.”"

Spieth also had to do this with his agent on his bag and not his caddie Michael Greller. Greller has been suffering from an ankle issue and they decided that it would be better to use this event to recover than any of Spieth’s upcoming tournaments.

After the round, Spieth praised his agent’s effort.

"“I thought Jay stepped in extremely well,” Spieth said. “It’s a tough place to caddie when you are not used to carrying the bag, with the weather, but he took it like a champ.” “We have some rounds under our belt and we have played together a lot so it’s an easy one-week replacement while Michael is getting healthy.”"

Always positive, Spieth feels that he’ll only get better as he gets used to the heat and humidity.

"“It’s just the first round,” Spieth said. “Coming here, to a different country, a different time zone, it’s still an adjustment, and I think each day should get a bit better.”"

It’s very obvious that Spieth is definitely on top of his game this season. He’s had four top five finishes and one top 10 finish. Good luck to the rest of the field if he’s playing like this when he arrives at Pebble.
