Jon Jones is one of the UFC’s brightest stars, but the man just cannot seem to avoid controversy. Last week in New Mexico, Jones courted personal disaster once again during a traffic stop.

The 28-year-old former UFC light heavyweight champion was pulled over on suspicion of drag racing last Thursday night around midnight. His conversation with the police officer who stopped him was unpleasant from the beginning. TMZ Sports has video of the incident. Warning, it is NSFW.

Jones is currently on probation for a hit-and-run incident that wound up leading to a suspension from the UFC and cost him his championship. He was defensive from the start when the officer approached him and was clearly agitated.

At one point Jones calls the officer a “f**king liar” and a “pig” then claims, “you’re despicable.” The officer fires back at Jones saying, “I feel the same way about you.”

The UFC issued a statement saying it is “aware of the situation and are looking into the matter.” Meanwhile, Jones went on Ariel Helwani’s “The MMA Hour” and apologized for his statements towards the officer.

Jones has since issued a full statement that TMZ Sports also has:

"I was not drag racing nor was I speeding. I did not get a speeding ticket. I was driving within the speed limit of the 35 mph zone. I feel that police used a technicality to ticket me for drag racing, for simply revving my engine and acknowledging some of my local fans. I regrettably said words to the police officer out of frustration, for which I apologize for, but I do feel this was excessive."

Jones is scheduled to fight current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier on April 23rd at UFC 197.
