Former Cleveland Browns GM Ray Farmer appeared on ESPN. He talked Johnny Manziel. He described Manziel as having a “Rolling Stone Magazine Cover Type of Persona.”

His basic premise, perhaps a fair one, is that Manziel had a unique brand of celebrity coming into the NFL. While he certainly had his own failings, the Browns could have embraced the unique challenges of employing him better.

Another Manziel parallel may be the “Rolling Stone Writer Type of Persona.”  Being exciting, improvisational, self-absorbed, unbeholden to strictures, beholden to substances, and less than punctual can make you a legend, as a male writer. Other facets of life, particularly NFL football, are far less charitable.
