Joey Chestnut competed in the World Turkey-Eating Championships at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut on Saturday, and it probably won’t surprise you to learn that he came away with the $5,000 prize. Consuming 9.35 pounds of turkey in 10 minutes, the competitive eater bested Kobayashi’s previous world record of 7.5 pounds with relative ease.

There are a few pretty amusing things about the video up top. Many of the other competitors looked like ordinary citizens, rather than professional food chuggers. This would be like you or me playing golf against Tiger Woods in his prime. We’d be decimated. Chestnut comes across as a pretty humble guy, though, as if he had no idea his strategy would prevail in the turkey-eating contest. “I stuck to my plan,” he says proudly as they cut to him shoving meat down his throat. That’s why you lift all them weights.

The moral of the story is that televised professional eating should not just be relegated to July 4th.
