Jets Take Ohio State WR Devin Smith, Too Bad They Don't Have a QB

Devin Smith, the speedy wide receiver from Ohio State who averaged 28 yards per catch last season, was taken by the Jets 37th overall in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft Friday night. One thing is clear: the Jets are ready to rock, they just need a QB.

The defensive line is imposing; they’ve got an elite cornerback in Darrelle Revis.

Offensively they’ve got a capable trio of backs – Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and Stevan Ridley. The offensive line is average, but that may improve in the 3rd round. And now they’ve got a Top 12 receiving quartet in the league with Eric Decker, Brandon Marshall, Jeremy Kerley and now, Devin Smith.

“He’s Torrey Smith, with better ball skills,” ESPN’s Todd McShay says about Devin Smith.

The problem, of course, is they have no QB. Geno Smith is still reading defenses at a college level; Ryan Fitzpatrick just isn’t very good.

So instead of potentially being 10-6 and going to the playoffs … they’ll have to settle for 6-10.

Unless maybe the Jets decided to make a move on Zach Mettenberger? Or Mike Glennon? Really, those guys are options.
