It is believed that the spleen is not ruptured, but Witten has experienced internal bleeding. If surgery is required, he will be out longer. If he just needs to heal without surgery, then he may be back for the first game against the Giants.

Witten is one of my favorite players in the league. He has been an iron man, missing only one game in a 9 year career. He is also probably under appreciated for how good he has been. He catches passes (six seasons with at least 900 yards receiving) while still blocking and going on mad rampages without a helmet. Here’s to hoping he is okay.
