If You Don't Like the New Sunday Night Football Theme Song, Blame Carrie Underwood

Maybe you’ve noticed this, maybe you haven’t, but the theme song for NBC’s Sunday Night Football was changed this year. After 10 years of “Waiting All day for Sunday Night,” sung by Pink, Faith Hill and eventually Carrie Underwood, SNF this year switched to “Oh Sunday Night,” because Underwood wanted to.

SNF executive producer Fred Gaudelli, speaking to the Los Angeles Times:

"“Carrie had approached me last year and said, ‘Hey, would you ever be open to changing the song to something else?’” Gaudelli said. “I said, ‘I’d be open if it would be fresh and exciting, and give us a little bit of a new identity.’” Underwood came back to him in February and said she had something for Gaudelli to hear. But she didn’t want him to listen to it in front of her, because, “If you hate it, I don’t want to see your face.”"

Gaudelli didn’t hate it, but some viewers do. One even wrote the Times to ask “why on earth” SNF changed its theme song.
