Hoops Teams Named For 2012 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic

The eight-team field for the 2011 event (seven teams from the mainland plus host University of Hawaii) were unveiled earlier this year.

Today, seven of the eight teams were disclosed for the 2012 tournament: Arizona, San Diego State, Miami (FL), Ole Miss, San Francisco and Texas Tech, in addition to host Hawaii. An eighth team will be named at a later date.

The 2011 field for the third annual Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic includes Auburn UTEP, Clemson, Kansas State, Southern Illinois, Long Beach State and Xavier, plus host Hawaii. This year’s tournament will take place Dec. 22, 23 and 25 at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

Games will air on ESPN networks, including the championship game on ESPN2 on Dec. 25. The Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic is owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television, a subsidiary of ESPN.

The University of Southern California won the inaugural tournament in 2009, followed by Butler in 2010.

In addition to title sponsor Hawaiian Airlines, marketing partners include Sheraton (Waikiki). Gilden, Wilson and Heineken.
