Hanley Ramirez and Heath Bell to the Red Sox for Carl Crawford?

The first question to ask aloud is, why the hell would Miami do such a thing? Crawford missed Boston’s first 89 games this season with a laundry list of injuries, finally returning to the lineup Monday night. He also missed 32 games last season and finished with a flaccid on-base percentage of .289. So, again, I wonder aloud: Why would the Marlins, or any team in baseball, want Carl Crawford and that awful contract?

Red Sox GM Ben Cherington has so far denied offering Crawford in a deal but did not deny Miami approaching them with a trade proposal. If anything, you would think the Marlins would be the team staunchly denying such ugly rumors.

Crawford is in the second year of a seven-year, $142 million deal, and nothing would please Red Sox fans more than seeing his carcass shipped out of town on a used big wheel.

According to Bob Knightengale, the Marlins are also discussing deals with various teams involving Omar Infante, Josh Johnson, and Anibal Sanchez.

Cleaning house in the first year of a brand new stadium? Sounds about right for the Marlins.
